Apple, Samsung call off all patent spats outside United States

No royalties or licences, but fight goes on

Apple and Samsung have put a stop to their intellectual property disputes in the eight nations where they were paying lawyers, but will keep splashing the cash on legal eagles in the US of A.

In a joint statement, the Korean chaebol and fruity chomp brand said:

"Samsung and Apple have agreed to drop all litigation between the two companies outside the United States.

"This agreement does not involve any licensing arrangements, and the companies are continuing to pursue the existing cases in US courts."

No money is changing hands, and there's no word on whether this is a settlement or a joint decision to keep the case alive in one mutually-agreeable jurisdiction.

The decision follows years of hotly contested decisions between the two biggest smartphone sellers on the planet over mobile blueprints and technology, spanning three continents - Europe, North America and Asia.

Disputes between the two around the world are considering more or less the same issues so perhaps it makes sense to get all the decision-making done once, instead of spending time and money in parallel cases.
