Australia puts itself back into Beta
Our land is girt by CSS borrowed from the motherland
The Online Services Branch of Australia's Department of Finance, which oversees the nation's online efforts, has put the country in beta with the release of a new design for the national website at australia.gov.au.
The new look is said to be the result of “user analysis and … benchmarking with other government agencies both here and overseas”, plus “many rounds of research and user testing that helped us understand and prioritise needs from a user perspective.”
The result, screen-capped below, is said to offer a refined “interface, interaction and information architecture” and to use “ … parts of the method described in the UK Service Design Manual - external site. For example, we're following their phases of service design and have adopted many of their design principles, including putting users first and research-based iteration.”
beta.australia.gov.au – It's boxy, but it's good
The Department is seeking feedback on the new design. Ping 'em an email or give the site itself a whirl. And if your thoughts aren't fit for government consumption, there's always our very own comments facility down there with which to share your thoughts. ®
