ESA sends back PRE-LANDING COMET CLOSE-UPS
Philae probe readied to touch down on surface of comet
This picture shows a "lobe" of the comet, with ridges, peaks and a pile of boulders.
In the bottom right of this image a circular hole can be seen. This could be caused by gas venting from the comet, although this theory cannot yet be confirmed.
Our space vulture Brid-Aine Parnell is currently in the air on her way to ESA mission control in Darmstadt where she will witness this epochal moment first-hand.
Look out for live coverage of this pioneering endeavour tomorrow. The Philae lander is expected to separate from the main craft at just after 9am GMT and then touch down seven hours later at about 4pm, so keep your eyes and ears glued to El Reg to witness history in the making. ®
