Rackspace joins Microsoft's Windows Azure Pack partner army
Like Windows Server? You'll love the whole package
Cloud-flinger Rackspace has joined Microsoft’s new army of cloud service providers.
Rackspace is now running Microsoft’s Cloud Platform at all of its US data centres.
That platform is a marketing wrapper that contains Hyper-V, System Center and Windows Server with the more recent Azure Pack to spin up and run VM-based clouds.
Azure Pack is a management portal, service-management API, service bus, SQL and MySQL and automation for Windows Server 2012 and System Center R2.
Rackspace, which until relatively recently was looking for a buyer, has also become a member of Microsoft’s Cloud OS Network for partners, which launched in late 2013. The network includes more than 100 partners with presence in more than 100 markets with 600-plus local data centres.
The general manager for Microsoft private cloud at Rackspace, Jeff DeVerter, wrote in a blog that the updated capabilities would let customers “focus their IT resources” and “utilize public and private clouds in ways that are best” for their businesses, and would have a single point of management. ®
