After less than five months on the job Logicalis sales director Tony Brooker has left the Slough-based integrator, sources have told The Channel.
Brooker took control of the sales floor in July to replace Phil Orford, who departed by mutual consent in January at around the same time that CEO Garry Bullard’s short-lived tenure at the firm ended.
Brooker is understood to be on gardening leave, which would suggest that it was maybe Logicalis, not the man himself, that called time on his employment at the firm.
The industry veteran's remit – to win over new customers – was perhaps easier said than done in the current climate, where some businesses are still hesitant to invest while the global economy remains volatile.
In the first half of Logicalis’ fiscal 15 ended August, the company reported a seven per cent global decline in sales to $714.4m, and the same percentage drop in operating profit to $30.5m.
Execs blamed a World Cup induced slowdown; Brazil is a key territory and punters there stopped buying during the tournament, it said. But it also admitted IBM’s hardware sales were hit by customers moving away from Unix, and by more lumpy demand for Cisco project work.
Brooker joined from Insight, where he was EMEA sales director until October 2013, and largely oversaw sales of products – hardware and software – as the services business still represents low single digits of turnover.
At Logicalis, managed, professional and maintenance services comprise 35 per cent of revenues, and this requires a different type of sales conversation.
According to people close to the matter Russell Crampin has stepped into the breach on an interim basis. The man himself confirmed as much by updating his LinkedIn profile to read “commercial sales director”.
Logicalis did not respond to calls for comment and Brooker refused to comment. ®
