Finally kicked that Minecraft habit? Story time!
Mojang says an epic narrative-mode is in the works
Minecraft's maker says it's working on a new "narrative-driven" follow up to the ultra-addictive world-building game.
Microsoft-owned software house Mojang along with Telltale Games have kicked off work on Minecraft: Story Mode.
The two developers said the title will be based in the Minecraft universe, but will give gamers a decidedly different experience to the dig'n'build environment of the smash-hit game.
Story Mode, slated for release some time next year, will not be an add-on to Minecraft, rather it'll be a standalone title that will replicate the look and feel of Minecraft.
According to Mojang, the game will be released as a series of episodes rather than a single massive title.
"Telltale's game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation," co-developer Telltale said..
The release of Story Mode will no doubt be eagerly anticipated by the millions of gamers who have fallen in love with Minecraft. The open sandbox nature of the game has inspired a number of grand creations including replicas of The British Museum and the entire country of Denmark. The game was so popular that it inspired Microsoft to lay out $2.5bn for Mojang on the strength of Minecraft. ®
