Hipsters ahoy! Top Ten BOARD games for festive family fun

Just in case you’re bored this Xmas

Takenoko

RH Numbers

For the Japanophiles among us, pandas and a cute anime aesthetic make this a beautiful game to own. Each player gets two actions per turn plus a random action depending on the weather dice. The aim of the game is to collect and complete mission cards, some with higher points value than others, by growing and eating the bamboo in the garden tiles that the players create throughout the game.

Takenoko

After reaching seven cards, the player with highest score wins. A charming game with delightful gaming pieces including a panda and a gardener, which is easy to pick up after a couple of games. Competitive fun for all the family.

Mice and Mystics

RH Numbers

One of my favourite comics is Mouse Guard, so the thought of playing a mouse appealed greatly to me. I also like the choice of mouse characters, such as magician Maginos and sword smith Prince Colin. With a number of missions in the form of cooperative adventures, I battle evil rats, cockroaches, spiders and, worst of all, the castle housecat Brodie to save the Kingdom!

Mice and Mystics

There’s no dungeon master in this game so all the players play against the game. Unsurprisingly, cheese is used to an enhancement to gain new abilities. The rich interactive environment, with a deep and stimulating storyline, this is a great alternative to a Narnia film.
