Apple LIGHTSABERS to feature in The Force Awakens

Jony Ive and Star Wars director JJ Abrams met at a party and talked weapons

Apple design supremo Jony Ive met Star Wars: The Force Awakens director at a dinner party and offered him some thoughts on lightsaber design that made it into the forthcoming flick.

So says The New Yorker in a profile of Ive.

The story says “Ive once sat next to J. J. Abrams at a boozy dinner party in New York, and made what Abrams recalled as 'very specific' suggestions about the design of lightsabers.”

Abrams told the magazine's Ian Parker that lightsaber design in the film “would reflect those thoughts”.

But Ive says he didn't come up with the idea for the lightsaber cross guards featured in the first trailer for the flick, instead suggesting the Jedi weapon be “less precise, and just a little bit more spitty” to make them “more analog and more primitive, and I think, in that way, somehow more ominous.”

For those of us with bad memories of the last Star Wars reboot - cough *JarJar* cough - them's fighting words. reg;
