Mark Starkey quits Logicalis UK

Family illness made exec 'realise life is very short'

Exclusive Logicalis UK boss Mark Starkey has quit the business to “step back” from the coalface and spend more time with his family, he told staffers in a note today.

“After nearly 17 years at Logicalis the time has come for me to move on,” he stated, in a missive seen by us.

He continued that in the last 12 months had been “very tough” after losing close family members and becoming a donor for his brother who had a rare form of cancer.

“All this has made me realise that life is very short and you only live once! Work has been my main focus and priority for the past 20 years and I now want to step back a little and spend some quality time with my family.

“I have been in discussions with Mark Rogers about this for some time and we have agreed that I will move on at the end of our financial year (28 February).”

The outgoing boss signed off by wishing staffers well for the future.

In a separate note, Mark Rogers, Logicalis Group CEO, confirmed that in the interim, Arnaud Spirlet, head of Europe, will assume control of the UK organisation “in the interim, whilst we search for a replacement for Mark”.

Starkey was made UK chief when industry veteran and long-serving UK chief Tom Kelly left the company in February 2013, handing over control as the integrator’s new fiscal year started.

But during his time on board, Starkey was faced with tough market conditions that hit the core vendors Logicalis sells, including IBM and Cisco, and he presided over the loss of the Wales PSN contract to BT.

We have called Starkey but his phone was switched off. ®
