Facebook shops for ads tech – snaps up product search engine TheFind

Key talent are keepers BUT losers weepers

Facebook has bought Mountain View, California-based product search engine TheFind for an undisclosed sum.

The outfit, founded in 2006, confirmed the takeover from Mark Zuckerberg's free content ad network in a statement on its website.

TheFind claimed to have helped 1 billion shoppers track down products using its service, which apparently crawls though 500 million product listings across 500,000 stores.

It said:

We are now starting our next chapter by combining forces with Facebook to do even more for consumers. Facebook's resources and platform give us the opportunity to scale our expertise in product sourcing to the over 1 billion people that use the platform.

Key members of our team are joining the company and will be working hard to integrate our technology to make the ads you see on Facebook every day better and more relevant to you.

Unfortunately, this means we will be taking our search engine offline in the next few weeks.

But it's unclear how many employees at the firm will be laid off as a result of the buyout.

TheFind owns seven patents, which will presumably be lucrative to Zuck's ad tech treasure chest. ®
