Former Misco exec rocks up at Tech Data
Gary Withington made UK corporate and field sales director
Vendor vet Gary Withington has landed at distribuor Tech Data months after he was let go by tin peddler Misco as part of a cost purge.
The man spent the best part of two decades at Sun Microsystems and Dell in various roles before rocking up as Misco UK MD, a job that lasted for two and a half years until October ’14.
He was part of the management team put in place by Misco EMEA president Pim Dale that was tasked with keeping the reselling plate revolving while spinning up corporate tech services. This has yet to work as planned so cost cutting has been taking place.
Withington’s time ended prematurely but his assets - running reseller and vendor sales teams - tickled the fancy of UK senior brass at Tech Data who have recruited him as corporate and field sales director.
In a canned statement, sales director Martin Boyce - himself a former Dell exec - reckons the appointment will let it build “deeper and wider customer relationships”. He didn’t expand.
In other prepared remarks, Withington said he expects to beef up market share in fiscal ’16 which ends next January.
The UK arm used to be the golden child for Tech Data, its largest country operation in Europe, which was itself the largest sales region for the company.
