Veritas fills another seat on EMEA exec jet

Gareth Hansford flies into storage world

Veritas has inserted industry veteran Gareth Hansford into the top boss slot for EMEA channels, as the organisation continues to disentangle itself from Symantec.

This is a return to vendor land for Hansford, who worked at distie Azlan for 20 months before he left in February amid a restructure. Prior to that he held senior positions at IBM and Lenovo.

He was sworn in as veep of channels for EMEA yesterday, reporting to former Morse man Mark Nutt who was made global partner lead for the information management business in January.

“Mark has built the strategy for Veritas and now its all about executing across the region,” Hansford told us.

Veritas “identified” the channel customers it wants to work with, presumably ones that are dripping in accreditations and do the most business.

“We’ll put our resources behind those companies rather than spreading ourselves too thinly with hundreds, [and] we’ll consolidate and work closely with fewer,” he said.

The sales team at Veritas and Symantec were put in place from the start of this month, as we previously revealed, and the organisations are expected to fully separate later in the year — October has been mooted.

Ironically, Veritas (the brand was resurrected in January) and its information management portfolio was the only part of Symantec to report growth in Q3 of fiscal 2015.

The Symantec mothership is being pressed to sell Veritas to private equity rather than float the organisation that it acquired in 2004. ®
