Hearthstone: The Grand Tournament expansion
Is it possible to start playing Hearthstone now when 30 million players have been crafting legendaries for the last year? Well, with the addition of The Grand Tournament expansion you might have a chance against me or even famous Twitch star Trump.
Play your cards right
Introducing 132 new cards, it’s similar in size to the last Goblins and Gnomes expansion. The Grand Tournament focuses on each character’s Hero ability and the new mechanic called inspire, that triggers different card effects when I use my hero ability. This encourages longer games and increased use of each hero’s ability and also adds depth to the skill and decision-making used in game.
Board room
But these are slow cards (probably to stop them being outrageously over-powered) as I need to have enough mana to use my hero ability in the same turn where possible. With a nostalgic Sword in the Stone medieval aesthetic, these new cards are striking. I am especially partial to the equally cute Murloc Knight and Tuskarr Jouster.
New card faves
Hearthstone is free to play but you're going have to have to real money to get involved in The Grand Tournament and it’s a frustrating learning curve for those without at least a couple of legendaries to trot out.
Game on
Now that World of Warcraft subscriptions have hit an all time low, there are rumours that this addictive card game is one of the bigger products keeping Blizzard's revenues up. It's worth the big bucks for the sheer amount of hours I have ploughed into it. Right, got to run – here comes the refreshment vendor whose death cry is: “But I have, more, cakes..!” ®
