Microsoft puts arm round Salesforce, pair skip gaily into the cloud

Lightening CRM comes to Skype, OneNote, Office Graph and Delve

Microsoft and Salesforce are extending their strategic partnership with a further integration of their software and CRM clouds.

Salesforce is to be pushed together with Microsoft’s Skype for Business, OneNote, Delve and Windows 10, the companies said late on Wednesday.

Skype for Business and OneNote are being integrated with Salesforce’s Lightening, potentially allowing users of Office 365 to make VoIP inside the cloud vendor’s new UI. Previews are scheduled for the second half of 2016.

Also coming is integration with Office Graph and Delve, to view and discover content in Salesforce, planned for the second half of 2016.

Graph is Microsoft’s graph database to map relationships between people, and Delve provides relevant information, ready for it to be served up to the user.

They rolled out earlier this year.

It’s not all one-way: Salesforce will build a version of Salesforce1, the mobile-friendly wrapper to its service announced in 2013, for Windows 10 mobile. This will also be delivered in the second half of next year.

The developments were announced at Salesforce’s annual Dreamforce conference, where Microsoft’s CEO was reportedly left with Cortana-flavoured egg on his face.

Back October 2014 the companies committed to a Salesforce App for Outlook that worked with Office 2013 and Office 365, and Salesforce1 Mobile App for Office. ®
