Twitter is preparing to lay off an unknown number of staff, just days after Jack Dorsey returned to the micro-blabbing site.

It turns out that he came back to the struggling company wielding a sharpened axe.

According to the New York Times, which cited three anonymous sources, job cuts could come as early as next Tuesday.

Plans to expand Twitter's headquarters in San Francisco will apparently be binned.

Twitter's workforce stands at more than 4,000 employees across the globe. But the site has yet to turn a profit.

The company declined to comment when approached by the NYT. Put another way, it refused to deny the rumours ... ®
