It's GOBBLE TIME: Dell set for EMC offer today

EMC will be free to seek other bidders, says report

EMC/Dell deal Dell will table its bid for EMC on Monday, according to a Reuters report from Sunday.

If the deal is revealed on Monday it will signal Dell's urgency to get it done: Monday is a federal holiday for Columbus day.

The report also says that Dell's bid will be non-exclusive, meaning EMC will be free to tape “Buy Me” to its back and see who comes calling.

Reuters' sources suggest suitors will be shy and that while EMC's board will go through the motions of trying to find more value for its shareholders, but that Dell will prevail.

The Reg tips massive, bloody consolidation if the deal does take place due to the overlap in products between Dell and EMC.

Dell will need at least US$53.5bn to acquire EMC's outstanding shares, making this the biggest ever enterprise technology deal. That sum is just under triple the $19bn Facebook paid for WhatsApp and its 450 million users, a deal that propelled The Social Network to a market capitalisation of $267bn. Collectors of data, it seems, do rather better than folks who make the kit that makes data available. ®
