Turnbull's transformers reveal first projects

Digital Transformation Office has given itself nine weeks to built a Gov.au prototype

Australia's Digital Transformation Office (DTO) has given itself nine weeks to built a prototype of an all-new gov.au and outlined its first lot of projects.

DTO CEO Paul Shetler revealed the plan of work on Wednesday, outlining the following projects:

  • An effort with the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, Service NSW and the Australian Tax Office, to “streamline business registrations: improving compliance, minimising errors and reducing frustration.” The DTO's aim here is to make it easier and faster to start a business;
  • Working with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to “improve the current arrangements for the management of the importation of goods across the border”;
  • Working with the Department of Human Services “to transform the way approximately 600,000 citizens register for Medicare each year”;
  • “Partnering with the ACT Government to improve the appointment booking system” so that citizens can just make bookings to see government folk without having to understand the the art of navigating bureaucracies.

Shetler promises regular updates on those efforts, which we'll track.

We'll also keep an eye on the nine-week gov.au sprint. That's due by Christmas and also looks to have the potential to re-re-work the Australia.gov.au beta delivered in late 2014. ®
