Reg Lectures It’s rare that the Register has to give a “trigger warning”, but it was necessary when former Iraq hostage Peter Moore brought our Winter Lecture series to a close this month with a 60-minute account of his two-and-a-half years in captivity.
After all, how often do we get a bunch of readers together in a pub to hear a talk that covers suicide, execution, and Middle East geopolitics, as well as working as an expat, the realities of contractor life and SQL.
Yeah, sounds like a barrel of laughs, yet while there moments that left the crowd quiet and reflective, Peter also had them laughing their socks off at the absurdities of life, politics and programming.
You can watch his hour-long talk here. Sadly, you won’t get the hour’s worth of Q&A that followed, or the high level chat that always breaks out when you squeeze a few dozen highly intelligent Reg readers into a room with a bar.
For that, you need to turn up in the flesh at our next series of lectures.
And if you want to find out when they’re happening almost as soon as we do, you should really consider signing up for a Reg account here. ®
