Atlassian plans 'mobile companions' for key apps

Mobile dev team expected to double over the next year

Atlassian has revealed why it's hung out the 'Help Wanted' sign for iOS and Android developers.

The company's mobile recruiter tells us it has “a team of approximately 20 sitting in Sydney now working on mobile.”

“Their aim is to build world class mobile companions for two of our largest products.”

Which products? We're told the Jira bug-tracker and Confluence enterprise Wiki are on the production line. And what's a “mobile companion”? Sounds like something rather short of full functionality – perhaps the chance to get Jira reports in your pocket so you know what bugs need crushing tomorrow.

Beyond those efforts, the company has mobile devs working on Jira, Confluence, Media Services and a “Core Mobile team.” The media services team is working on “file preview and storage handling across all of our products, from backend services to the actual integration of components/experiences.” The core team's concerns include “iOS and Android infrastructure, crash reporting, networking, build and release tooling, infrastructure etc.”

The company's recruiter said Atlassian expects its mobile team to double in size over the next year and that there are open mobile dev gigs at the company right now. ®
