Arista scores vs. Cisco

The ITC is to review its February decision in the Cisco/Arista patent case.

The case has been going on since 2014, when Cisco lobbed the first sueball accusing the upstart of infringing its patents and copyrights.

In January this year, Arista filed a countersuit saying Cisco had encouraged the industry to base their command line interfaces (CLIs) on its technology, and reversing that stance was stifling competition.

In February, the ITC determined that Arista had violated three Cisco patents – and it's that decision that's now under review.

The full ITC is going to review the single-judge “initial determination”, including taking another look at the three patents Arista was found to infringe; and at Cisco's request, the ITC has also granted review of another patent Arista had been cleared of infringing.

The decision is here as a PDF.

Cisco and Arista will file their submissions by April 25, 2016, and will have until May 5 to file responses to each other. ®
