Cloud darling Salesforce is upsetting end users by giving its Salesforce1 supported devices list a number-one haircut.
While it doesn't bite until 2017, the end-of-life list hacks out all Android devices except a handful of Samsung and Nexus machines.
Salesforces' announcement says: “Salesforce will no longer provide technical support, bug fixes or enhancements for Salesforce1 issues that arise on any of the following devices running the Salesforce1 downloadable and mobile browser apps”, and the only supported 'droids will be “Samsung Galaxy S5, S6 and S7; Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Google Nexus 5X and Google Nexus 6P”.
As the EOL note explains, the company will only test reported bugs on the Samsung/Nexus devices. If the issue doesn't affect those units, it won't get a fix.
iPhone users are similarly force-marched into the future, with the app ceasing active support for iPhone 5/5C, iPad Mini 2/3, and iPad 4.
Unsupported devices will be able to install the app from Google Play.
Unsurprisingly, not everyone's thrilled:

There's a lot more reaction happening in Asia, which makes The Register suspect the change got overlooked during America's afternoon.
Salesforce's decision is notable because it suggests the company knows there's little need to support a larger collection of devices and little point asking users to tolerate its apps on anything other than premium handsets. Sales data for smartmobes suggests that Apple and Samsung pretty much own the market, anyway, although Chinese vendors are rising fast. It will be interesting to see if Salesforce feels the need to add Middle Kingdom mobe-makers to its approved lists in the future. ®
