FCC backs Google Fiber in Louisville spat
These poles are made for sharing
The FCC has put its weight behind Google in the Chocolate Factory's fight to bring Fiber to Louisville, Kentucky, US.
In a filing [PDF] to a Kentucky district court, the US comms watchdog says it believes Google should have the right to string its fiber data lines on city utility poles with the ability to lift up or move cables of other providers given prior notice.
It's worth noting that the FCC does not have the ability to decide the case in Google's favor, and is merely giving the court its opinion on the matter.
Google finds itself in a court battle with AT&T and Comcast over a "one touch make ready" law the city passed earlier this year allowing it to move competitors' lines. That law has been challenged in court. ®
