Qumulo gets head transplant

Incoming CEO as founding CEO goes to CTO role

Qumulo CEO and co-founder Peter Godman is transitioning to a CTO role as Bill Richter is hired to be the new CEO and Presidenp.

Godman, recent CTO Aaron Passey and VP Engineering Neil Fachan, all ex-Isilon execs, founded scale-out file startup Qumulo in 2012. Richter is another ex-Isilon exec. He left his president role at EMC’s Isilon business in September 2014, having previously been Isilon’s CFO before the EMC acquisition.

Since then Richter has been in the VC business with Madrona Venture Partners, and sits on three boards. He has not been a CEO before but Qumulo’s announcement puts a gloss on this by saying “Richter has 20 years of leadership experience in the technology industry”. Co-founder and former CTO Aaron Passey moved to San Fran in July to "take some time off".

Qumulo introduced HPE Apollo server support with its Core software earlier in November. It also gained $32.5m funding in June, giving Richter lots of money to spend on building up the business's go-to-market side. ®
