UK banking TITSUP*: This time it's Clydesdale and Yorkshire banks
'Internal issue' blamed for morning's outage
Clydesdale and Yorkshire bank users have been unable to log in to their accounts or see transactions today, thanks to a non-specific “technical issue”.
Users took to social media to complain about the unscheduled downtime that has affected mobile, telephone and internet banking since around 0830 GMT this morning.
The bank, which operates under the banner CYBG, told El Reg it was aware of a “technical issue” affecting some customers and was working on a fix, which one Twitter user imagined thus:

Hundreds of errors have been reported on DownDetector in recent hours, with one customer saying they get internal server error messages and crashes when trying to transfer money.
“New Internet Banking is appalling compared to the old one. Options like export to MSMoney have just been left out :-( !!!” the angry punter added.
Others complained that payments are rebounding from their accounts:
@askyorkshire Hi, my work is trying to pay me but the payment keeps rebounding, is there an issue?

Clydesdale Bank ‘fessed up on Twitter to two problems: customers being unable to log in and others seeing balances that don’t tally with transactions.
Hi there, we're aware of some customers not being able to login this morning. We have a team looking into resolving this. Please keep trying if possible. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing you. Thanks, Lisa.

Hi Duncan, we're having some issues with the transactions showing on accounts this morning. The balance reflects transactions, they're just not showing on the account. We're working on fixing this asap. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Thanks, Ashley.

CYBG, which recently acquired with Virgin Money to form the UK’s sixth biggest bank, said:
"CYBG is aware of a technical issue currently affecting some services for customers via our mobile app, telephone and internet banking. Service is available in branches and across our ATM network. This is an internal issue and we are working to fix it as quickly as possible. We thank customers for their patience."
Although the outage might be something of an unusual occurrence for CYBG customers, online banking operations at the other top UK banks have been slated in the past few months, after a spate of online services wobbles.
Chief among these is TSB, whose botched migration from the IT systems of its parent, Lloyds Banking Group, led to a whole world of pain for customers from April onwards. ®
