Bit nippy, is it? Hive smart home users find themselves tweaking thermostat BY HAND

Massive outage across energy firm Centrica's app estate

Brit energy company Centrica's Hive smart home devices went missing in action this morning with a major outage confirmed across much of the app estate, forcing users to tweak manual controls for heating, hot water and surveillance cameras.

Login wobbles, as revealed by the status page, began at 9:44 UTC across the HiveHome website, dashboard and mobile app, Hive Active Heating, Hive View and "other" products. Only Hive Leak – used to spot leaks around the home – was working as Centrica intended.

Engineers have since been "continuing to work on a fix for this issue".

This couldn't have happened at a worse time for app happy users, what with an incoming polar plume from Iceland set to cause temperatures to tumble to as low as -5°C in parts of the UK. Those that can will be forced to intervene manually. There will be those that can't.

Naturally, some of Centrica's Hive customers leapt onto Twitter to complain.

The Reg has asked Centrica to comment. ®
