ISO.org outage hits day 3: Still in the dark as the important matter of bunk bed standards enters discussion

Time to get out ISO 22300:2021, Security and resilience – Vocabulary

The great International Organization for Standardization outage is entering its third day as consultants find themselves bereft of technical documents with which to beat engineers.

Problems first appeared as 26 January drew to a close and the organisation noted: "We are currently facing a technical outage impacting our application's availability and performance. This outage is under investigation."

The following day brought good news. At 0822 CET on 27 January the group announced it had identified the issue (something to do with IT infrastructure) and a couple of hours later reported that some applications were being brought back up.

Alas, 24 hours on and much of the site still seems to be down. One Register reader remarked: "Now would not be a good time to look up the ISO 22300:2021 Security and Resilience Vocabulary."

Well, you could try. And you'd probably find yourself staring at a page spattered with the word "Unavailable" and apologies from the organisation.

The Register contacted the ISO to find out what had befallen its infrastructure. After all, a lengthy outage is not the greatest of looks for an outfit normally associated with best practices whose standards tend to be wheeled out by auditors seeking to make a point.

While there has been no response from the group (allowing for mutterings about something concerning DNS and malware), we can but hope that further updates will use approved ISO standard vocabulary. Assuming one can actually find the document concerned.

In the meantime, the standards work goes on.

Beds, eh? No surprise that ISO has opted for a lengthy lie-down. ®
