From passive to proactive: How AI is personalizing 5G in Xi'an

AI-powered service engine enables personalized, real-time 5G optimization, dynamically allocating resources for high-density tourist areas.

Partner Content Xi'an, a renowned international tourist destination in China with a history spanning over 3,000 years, welcomes more than 300 million visitors each year. However, this massive influx of tourists has long placed significant strain on the city's mobile networks. During peak times such as holidays, the conventional "one-size-fits-all" network service model often falls short in meeting the diverse connectivity demands of users. In high-density areas like popular attractions, issues such as network delays, interrupted live streams, and delayed payments were frequent. These problems not only impaired the travel experience but also hindered the development of the local digital economy. To address this challenge, China Mobile Shaanxi and ZTE Corporation have jointly launched the "AI Engine- Powered Personalized 5G Service" solution under the guidance of the China Mobile Group, leveraging AI technology to drive the transformation of network service models from passive response to active guarantee.

The core breakthrough of this solution is its AI-powered service awareness engine and modular architecture, which together enable the rapid upgrade of traditional base stations into intelligent ones. The system features a built-in, multi-dimensional service feature library capable of accurately identifying over 16,000 application types. It distinguishes the specific network resource requirements of applications like instant messaging, video, and gaming with 95% accuracy. By aligning with typical tourist itineraries—from browsing shops to watching performances, and finally to snapping pictures at landmarks and departing—the AI engine provides seamless, end-to-end network optimization. It uses intelligent scheduling algorithms to allocate network resources dynamically, prioritizing high-value services like live streaming and mobile payments. Furthermore, the AI continuously learns from real-time network conditions and auto-tunes parameters, ensuring consistent and stable service quality for users, even in densely crowded areas.

Building on this success, China Mobile Shaanxi and ZTE plan to leverage this solution in other high-value scenarios. These range from the Terracotta Army and Olympic Sports Centers to major transportation hubs and large-scale concerts. By integrating data such as passenger flow forecasts and weather information, the system will achieve increasingly precise, data-driven network resource allocation. It will also pioneer new service models, including tailored AR navigation packages, advancing an end-to-end intelligent upgrade that evolves from predicting user demand to proactively delivering matched services.
