The Times offers subsidised Nexus 7s to get subscribers

Or Google offers subsidised Times to sell 'slabs

One day on from the announced closure of The Daily - which was Rupert Murdoch's first attempt at a fondleslab-only newspaper - his British broadsheet the Times is flogging cheap Nexus 7 tablets to those who subscribe to the paper.

The Google tablet normally retails at around £199, but Times and Sunday Times readers who sign-up to the digital version of the newspaper for £4 a week will be flogged a cheap-as-chips Nexus 7, too.

Murdoch has been highly critical of Google in recent months. However, that didn't stop the marketing wing of News International from describing the marriage of Nexus with the Times as an "award-winning duo for an award-winning price."

Readers can also buy an 18-month subscription to the newspaper with a one-off credit card payment of £299, gifting them with a Nexus 7, which apparently has "a total saving of £212 off the Nexus 7 RRP & The Digital Pack subscription."

The Daily's short-lived adventure ends before 2012 is out. ®
