Skype calls on iPad, briefly

Premature application

Skype's official iPad app finally made its way to the App store last night before the company pulled it down saying it "went live prematurely".

The app was already a month or so late when it went up. Those rushing to download the app this morning only to find it had been removed, were told they'd have to wait through a company Tweet.

"To ensure your best Skype experience, we've temporarily removed Skype for iPad which went live prematurely today." it reads.

Skype iPad

Skype for iPad brings with it all the features from the iPhone version expanded in size, as well as the additional ability to use instant messaging while in the middle of a video call.

Unlike Apple FaceTime, in which users must have a Wi-Fi connection, customers can use the Skype app to video chat over a 3G network.

The company insists its removal is temporary and the app will return soon. ®
